Home backup batteries · coming soon
A home backup battery is a standalone unit that lives indoors. It charges from a wall socket and powers whatever you plug into it, through the evening or a power cut.
These batteries can't be used with a plug-in solar kit They don't store a kit's power and never connect to one. A plug-in kit must never be used with a battery.

Worked out from usable capacity alone: 85% reaching the sockets and typical figures, rounded down. Evening set: TV, two lamps and the router, about 86W. The 2kWh battery is the first size we plan to list.
Nominal capacity is everything the cells hold. Usable capacity is what the battery lets you draw before it stops to protect itself. Usable is always the smaller figure, and it's the one to compare.
Then some energy is lost turning battery power into mains power for your sockets. We plan with 85% of usable reaching the sockets until a model's tested figure is in.
| Figure | What it means | For a 2kWh battery |
|---|---|---|
| Nominal | Everything the cells hold | A little over 2,000Wh |
| Usable | What you can draw | About 2,000Wh |
| At the sockets | What your appliances get | About 1,700Wh |
None of them are wired into your fuse box. You plug appliances into the battery, and it powers those.
Plug-in solar kits follow strict rules so they can plug safely into a home socket. One of those rules: a plug-in kit must never be used with a battery.
So we keep the two apart. Our batteries never store power from a plug-in kit, and we don't sell anything that links them.
Want solar panels with battery storage? That's a fitted system, designed and installed by a qualified solar installer.
The first size we plan to stock.

No. It powers what you plug into it, so choose the essentials: the fridge-freezer, lights, Wi-Fi and phones.
No. It's a standalone appliance that plugs into a wall socket, and your appliances plug into it. It isn't wired into your home's circuits.
Not in winter if the garage freezes. Lithium batteries usually can't charge below 0°C. A dry spot indoors is better.
No. A rooftop system's battery is wired in by an installer. Ours are standalone and plug into a socket.
